Synopsis

The video begins with Gordon and Miles fixing a bike and Zoe playing with her toy train as "Old MacDonald" plays on the radio. The radio's announcer (Jackman Wolf) announces that coming up next is a song about a railroad. Zoe recognizes this song as "I've Been Working on the Railroad". She sings it, along with Gordon, Miles, and Mr. Honker joining in. After that, Jackman Wolf announces that Elmo's Top Ten Countdown is coming up later. Zoe asks Gordon what that is. Gordon explains that it's a list of the top ten favorite songs, and Jackman Wolf chose Elmo to pick them and count them down from 10 to 1. Zoe says she can count down from 10 to 1. This leads to a cartoon where 10 masked dancers are counted down from 10 to 1.

Elmo is walking by, counting backwards from 10 to 1. He meets up with the Count, who says he's satisfied with him counting backwards. Elmo says it's for practice for his Top Ten Countdown. The Count says he's practicing as well. He sings his favorite song - "This Old Bat" (This Old Man) - with Elmo joining in. After the song, Elmo leaves, counting backwards once more, while the Count sings about 5 bats.

Elmo passes by Telly, who cannot think of his favorite song for Elmo's Top Ten Countdown. He asks the viewers if they can help him find his favorite song. Telly first chooses to sing "The Alphabet Song", backed up by two muppet letters A and Z. He then says that his first song could be his favorite song. Maybe.

While Elmo is counting backwards again on the stoop of 123 Sesame Street, Mr. Snuffleupagus appears wearing a sailor's outfit, practicing his favorite song - "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". He invites Elmo to sing with him. Elmo climbs on Snuffy's back and they sing together as they go on a pretend boat ride. After the song, Snuffy wants to go tell Big Bird about the countdown. Another cartoon follows about sea creatures in the ocean counted down from 10 to 1.

Meanwhile, Telly decides to go with his second favorite song - "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". He sings it with a muppet star. After that, he claims his second song could be his favorite song, and when he's about to go tell Elmo, a black sheep tells him "Baa Baa Telly!", making Telly realize there's a song called "Baa Baa Black Sheep", coming up after the following song.

Elmo finds a quiet place in the arbor area to practice the countdown. He suddenly notices Prairie Dawn and five kids marching while singing "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt". Elmo approaches them and says he's practicing for his Top Ten Countdown. Prairie Dawn says they're practicing as well and have been singing their favorite song for Elmo, so he won't forget it. Prairie Dawn invites Elmo to sing with them, even though he has trouble in saying the name. After the song, Elmo claims he can't stop thinking about the song. He then decides to count down from 10 to the tune to the song.

Later, Telly chooses "Baa Baa Black Sheep" from before as his next favorite song. He sings it, backed up by three sheep. After the song, Telly is still unsure which is his favorite song.

Meanwhile, as Elmo heads over to Big Bird's nest (saying hello to Tucker and Vicky in the process), he sees Big Bird and five Birdketeers practicing their favorite song - "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain". After that, Elmo leaves, saying he's getting tired from singing and practicing and falls asleep in the arbor. He has a dream where the Oinker Sisters sing "This Little Pig Went to Market", with Elmo joining in. After the song, Gordon and Miles wake him up. Elmo tells them that the Countdown will only have him counting down the numbers 10 to 1, which is what he has just been practicing to do. As Elmo leaves for the countdown, Telly suddenly arrives and announces he finally knows what his favorite song is. This leads to one last cartoon where a factory shows numbers counted down from 10 to 1.

Telly, Big Bird, Zoe, Prairie Dawn, Gordon, Miles, the star, one of the sheep, the letter Z, the Birdketeers, and the five kids from "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" are gathered in the arbor. Telly announces his favorite song - "The Alpha-Baa-Baa-Twinkle Song", a mix of his three favorite songs to the same tune. He asks Prairie Dawn to play it on the piano as he sings it. He then asks everyone if they like it. At first they don't, but Gordon and Miles say they like it. Everyone else agrees, and they all sing it together.

After that, they hear Jackman Wolf on the radio. In the WCTW radio station, Jackman Wolf introduces Elmo for his Top Ten Countdown. Elmo says he would like to dedicate the countdown to all his friends on Sesame Street. He carefully counts down the numbers while everyone joins in with him. When they reach one, he receives an applause from his friends. Jackman Wolf claims it as "phenomenal" and even "so cool".
